Organist / Pianist

Pay: $10,000.00 – $12,000.00 per year
Hours: 2-4/week

Organist / Pianist Responsibilities

  • Play the musical portions of the service. Play for Sunday services at 10 a.m. and any services as required by the liturgical calendar, i.e., Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday. Music includes preludes commencing five minutes before the start of the service, hymns, service music as needed, choir anthems, and postlude.
  • Select, plan, and practice hymn accompaniments and appropriate settings.
  • Be generally available for weddings and memorial services, to be compensated separately from regular salary.
  • Note: We have a choir director in place.

St. John’s Musical Instruments

  • The William A. Johnson one manual pipe organ was built in 1860. It is a small instrument but has an adequate number of stops for a variety of sound and enough power to lead the congregation.
  • The Chickering grand piano, built around 1920 has a light action allowing easy gradation of volume and is good for choral accompaniment as well as preludes and postludes.

St John’s Church is located at 6 South Street in Ashfield, MA, across Main Street from the parish house.
